REVIEW: King of the Hill Welcomes Fans Back to Arlen

In advance of the August premiere of its revival, King of the Hill fans had so much to be excited about during San Diego Comic-Con 2025, from a panel to a signing, elevator wraps and a thoughtful offsite behind the convention center full of good old fashioned fun.

Attendees were given a card upon entry with a ticket redeemable for a hat at the Mega Lo Mart and another for some backyard grub. Under the iconic Arlen water tower, cans of ALAMO branded water were available to wash it all down.

Carnival games featured a Texas spin, with “Alamo Pong” giving attendees a chance to go head-to-head against one another, tossing bean bags into oversized Alamo beer cans. Winners picked up a handy-dandy King of the Hill branded can coozie.

Across the way at Rhinestein’s Cowboy Boot Toss, the goal was to toss a ring over a boot to win a prize. The prize on our day was a canvas apron, while other groups were given enamel pin sets.

Both games moved people through as swiftly as possible, with the only potential issue being when bean bags were lost among the oversized cans, or there was a bit too much trash-talking and not enough tossing.

Plenty of room was given to oversized character cutouts and fun iconic photo opportunities like Hank’s lawn mower and Dale’s work truck.

The Mega Lo Mart was where you picked up your customized swag — a trucker hat in your choice of color, with your chosen patch steamed onto it. By offering a limited amount of selections, yet still giving fans the experience of selection, allowed the process to run as fast as the heat presses could go, and gave us a fun and useful souvenir.

Hulu knows that attendees love a bite to eat, and this was a backyard BBQ after all, so we were treated to breakfast tacos (our timeslot being in the morning). Presumably later in the day, they switched up the food with more lunchtime fare. They also offered picnic tables and umbrellas, a fantastic (and also a bit rare) opportunity to sit, eat, crack open a can of Alamo, and enjoy the backyard oasis in the middle of the San Diego Comic-Con chaos.

In all the ways where Abbott Elementary Black Party worked against maximizing attendee’s experience, King of the Hill excelled. They gave us just enough to do, just enough to see and got us through quickly, leaving with a smile on our face and a Texas-sized “HWAT?!” in our hearts.
